UDEM in 3-1 over Huskies and take semi-final series

(Halifax, NS)  Felicia Anctil (Quebec City, QC) scored a crucial shorthanded goal at 14:00 of the second period as the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 3-1 to sweep their AUS semifinal best of 3 series 2-0 Thursday night at Alumni Arena.

Anctil's big goal earned her Subway player of the game honours.

Both teams were unable to put a goal on the board in the first 20 minutes of the game.

In the second, Moncton struck first when Marie-Pier Arsenault (Bonaventure, QC) potted a powerplay marker at 7:48 to make it 1-0. Anctil's shorthanded goal extended Moncton's lead to 2-0. Saint Mary's stayed in it when Caitlyn Manning (Cambridge, ON) scored on the powerplay at 16:09 to make it 2-1 after two periods.

Moncton sealed the win, in the third, when Katryne Villeneuve (Casselman, ON) scored into an empty net at 18:51 to give the Aigles Bleues a 3-1 lead.

The Huskies outshot the Aigles Bleues 31-28. Gabrielle Forget (Joliette, QC) made 30 saves to get the win in net for the Aigles Bleues and Rebecca Weagle (Lunenburg, NS) stopped 25 shots in goal for the Huskies.

Moncton will play the St. Francis Xavier X-Women in the AUS best of 3 final. Dates and times for the series have yet to be announced.
