Huskies take straight sets win over Moncton to secure first round bye

The Saint Mary's Huskies women's volleyball team won their third consecutive match on Sunday, defeating the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues in three sets, to secure first place in the AUS standings heading into playoffs.

The Huskies won 25-16, 25-14 and 25-21.

Huskies setter Jakobie Friesen (Barrie, ON) was named Subway Player of the Game and led all players with 28 assists. Friesen finished the AUS season atop the assists leaderboard with an impressive 510.

Outside hitter Megan Bruhm (Hubley, NS) led the Huskies with nine kills and chipping in eight digs and three service aces, while Olivia Bell (LaHave, NS) added six kills, and three service aces. Bruhm and Bell finished the season second and third in the conference in kills, with 156 and 155 respectively.

For the Aigles Bleues, Sara Chiasson has 12 kills and 10 digs to lead the offense. Joanie Arsenault also collected 10 digs. A pre-game ceremony honoured graduating Aigles Bleus senior Télia Gaudet.

The Huskies finish the regular season with a 11-4 record, and secure a first round bye in the AUS Playoffs. They'll host the winner of the #4/#5 quarterfinal at a date TBD.
