McGarvey finishes second at Acadia Invitational Meet; Huskies men finish fourth

The second race of the AUS Cross Country season took place this past Saturday in Wolfville, hosted by Acadia University. Taking place on the picturesque hills of Hennigar's Farm, Rory McGarvey shone brightly for the Huskies as he placed 2nd in the men's 8km race.

McGarvey raced alongside the lead pack through the first half of the race, patiently waiting to make his move over the second half of the distance as a chase pack navigated through the turns as Dalhousie's Jacob Benoit surged ahead from early on.

As the field started to split going into the last 2km lap of the race, McGarvey made a push to bridge the gap between the chase pack and Benoit, ultimately closing the gap to 8 seconds and having the fastest last 2km lap of the field, finishing in a time of 26:39.

Teagan Scott (10th, 27:54) and Joe Stewart (12th, 27:59) were the next two finishers for the Huskies, as the men finished 4th in the team standings with a score of 82 points, just behind the 3rd place Memorial Sea-Hawks. The Dalhousie Tigers would claim 1st in the team standings with a score of 29 points.

On the women's side, the Huskies had three cross the line, with Gael Cameron (41st, 36:18), Jacqueline Moore (50th, 38:29), and Ashley Brady (51st, 39:47), finishing for the maroon and white.

Caroline Ash of the St.FX X-Women won in 31:52, and the Dalhousie Tigers took 1st place in the team standings with a score of 30 points.

The Huskies travel to Fredericton next as the UNB Reds play host to the annual AUS-RSEQ Interlock Meet on Saturday, Oct. 7. This is the last regular season meet before Saint Mary's hosts the AUS Championships on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Point Pleasant Park.
