Diggs, McMillan named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Jan. 15-21, 2024

Men's basketball guard Jayrell Diggs and women's basketball guard Alaina McMillan have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week ending January 21, 2024.

Jayrell Diggs, a third year guard from East Preston, NS is the Huskies male athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 15-21, 2024.

Diggs helped lead the Huskies to a pair of big wins over the Cape Breton Capers, averaging 24.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

In Friday's 96-91 win over the Capers, Diggs scored 17 points - including nine in the fourth quarter - and added six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

In Saturday's 91-87 win over the Capers, Diggs scored 32 points - including 17 in the fourth quarter - and added three rebounds and two assists.

On the season Diggs is averaging 19.5 points (4th in AUS), including 39 made three-pointers (2nd in AUS), and 24 steals (4th in AUS).

The Huskies have won five straight games to improve to 7-6 on the season, and will take on the STFX X-Men this Wednesday in Antigonish.

Alaina McMillan, a fifth year guard from Brantford, ON, is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Jan. 15-21, 2024.

McMillan helped lead the Huskies to a pair of big wins over the Cape Breton Capers, averaging 18.5 points, 3.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.

In Friday's 84-53 win over the Capers, McMillan scored 10 points, led the Huskies with five assists and four steals and added five rebounds.

In Saturday's 76-57 win over the Capers, McMillan scored a game-high 27 points including five three-pointers, and added three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

On the season McMillan is averaging 14.3 points (9th in AUS), 4.2 assists (2nd in AUS) and 1.8 steals (5th in AUS).

The U SPORTS #8 ranked Huskies improved to 10-3 on the season, and will take on the STFX X-Women this Wednesday in Antigonish.
