Three Huskies - Howard, Jean-Loescher, and John - invited to CFL National Combine

WATERLOO — Twelve prospects have booked their tickets to the 2023 CFL Combine presented by New Era in Edmonton from March 22-26.

The inaugural CFL Invitational Combine presented by New Era, brought together 76 draft-eligible prospects to the University of Waterloo's Feridun Hamdullahpur Field House, for a chance to compete for invites to the CFL National Combine, which will run from March 22-26 in Edmonton, AB.

Three Huskies - tight end Sebastian Howard, linebacker Markcus Jean-Loescher, and defensive end Aidan John - were among the 12 players selected to move on to the National Combine. The Huskies were the only U SPORTS program to have multiple players invited to move on.

Howard, Jean-Loescher and John will join Huskies defensive back Jassin States-McClean, who has already been invited to the National Combine. With four players attending the National Combine, the Huskies are tied for second among all universities, trailing only Western (five players), and tied with Ottawa, Regina and Saskatchewan.

Howard, a 6'5" tight end out of Calgary, AB posted the following combine results:

  • 4.71 40-yard dash (1st among TE, 7th overall)
  • 9'10.5" broad jump (1st among TE, 8th overall)
  • 31" vertical jump (1st among TE)
  • 7.71 three-cone drill (1st among TE)
  • 4.59 shuttle drill (2nd among TE)

Jean-Loescher, a 6'0" linebacker out of Toronto, ON posted the following combine results:

  • 7.19 three-cone drill (1st among LB, 6th overall)
  • 4.83 40-yard dash (1st among LB)
  • 9'4 1/8" broad jump (1st among LB)
  • 4.53 shuttle drill (T1st among LB)
  • 29.5" vertical jump (6th among LB)

John, a 6'3" defensive end out of Halifax, NS posted the following combine results:

  • 9'10 3/8" broad jump (1st among DL, 9th overall)
  • 4.60 shuttle drill (1st among DL)
  • 4.88 40-yard dash (2nd among DL)
  • 32" vertical jump (3rd among DL)
  • 7.40 three-cone drill (1st among DL, 19th overall)
  • 14 bench press reps (11th among DL, T20th overall)

The 2023 editions of the CFL Draft and the CFL Global Draft will take place on May 2.
