Five Huskies earn double-digit performances in 91-83 win over CBU

Sydney, NS – The undefeated Saint Mary's Huskies continued their impressive run with a 91-83  victory over the CBU CAPERS on Saturday evening at the Sullivan Fieldhouse in Sydney. The CAPERS furious 4th-quarter comeback fell just short.

The CAPERS outscored the Huskies 26-13 in the fourth to cut what was once a 21 point SMU lead to an 8 point victory for the Halifax school.

The Huskies used a deep bench and got double-digit performances from 5 players. Kemar Alleyne led the way with 28 points, Brent Martindale (12), Nikita Kasongo (11), Johneil Johnson (10) and Kordeiro James (10) chipped in.

The CAPERS also had 5 players in double digits with current AUS scoring leader Osman Omar (Mississauga, ON) leading the way with 26 points. Other CAPERS in double digits were Shacier Locke (Mississauga, ON) with 15, Eugene Kankue (Ottawa, ON) with 12 and Paul Watson (Mississauga, ON) & Ibrahim Gosselin-Diawara (Longuiel, QC) each had 10.

 

Turning point – The Huskies erased a 4 point, 1st quarter deficit with some sharp shooting in the second quarter. The Huskies outscored the CAPERS 33-16 in the second quarter and were able to build a big lead before the CAPERS comeback bid in the fourth quarter.  

 

Individual Leaders

  • Alleyne led all scorers with 28 points
  • Martindale and Locke each had 11 rebounds
  • Watson of CBU had a game-high 4 assists
  • Kasongo was 3 for 9 from beyond the arc.

 

 

News & Notes

 

The Subway Player of the Game was Kemare Alleyne.

The Huskies improve their record to a perfect 15-0 on the season and remain in 1st place in the AUS standings.

The CAPERS fall to 7-8 with 22 pts on the season and remain in 3rd place.

The CAPERS next game is Friday, February 8th as they travel to Halifax to play Saint Mary's in another 4-point game.
