Aigles Bleus fall 5-2 to the Huskies

(MONCTON, N.B.) - The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (7-11-2) let the Saint Mary's University Huskies (14-5-1) take a 4-0 lead and then settled for a 5-2 loss, Friday, in an AUS hockey game in front of 700 spectators, at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The Aigles host the StFX X-Men (12-7-1), Saturday, at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena. The Varsity Reds, the Axemen and the Huskies are now assured of a position in the AUS playoffs. The Friday win by the seventh spot Tigers brought them to within three points of Moncton. 

Victor Beaulac (from Pierre Durepos and Allain Saulnier), on the power play at 8:34 and Jean-François Plante (from Steve Lebel and Pier-Antoine Dion), less than two minutes later, scored for Moncton in the third period, reducing the lead to two goals.

Bradley Greene, with two and Steven Beyers, Mitchell Maynard and Gerard Grant were able to get the puck behind Moncton netminder Brandon Thibeau on 40 shots.

The Aigles managed 34 shots on the Huskies' Anthony Peters. The visitors took a 2-0 lead in the first and there was no second period scoring.

"This was not our best first period," Moncton coach Serge Bourgeois said. "We should have put forth more effort and win battles for the puck. We played better in the second and third periods. We were not lucky on their third goal. The Huskies played a very good game."
