Huskies and Axemen tie in soccer season opener

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - Outshooting the Huskies 33-8 in shots, the Acadia Axemen men's soccer team settled for a 0-0 tie against visiting Saint Mary's.

Huskie Christian Oxner (Halifax, N.S.), who was the starting keeper for Saint Mary's, was named as one of two Subway Players of the Game for his 16 saves on 17 shots on goal.

With the heavy raining subsiding in the early moments of the first half, the game was played in reasonable conditions compared to the earlier women's game.

Nigel Goodwin, a third year keeper in his first year starting, was tested in net with three saves from eight shots and three shots on goal.

Cory Cadeau (Coldbrook, N.S.), named the Subway Player of the Game for Acadia, had five shots and three shots on goal while teammate Cooper Coats(Halifax, N.S.) had a team high 11 shots and seven shots on goal.

The Axemen travel to Halifax on Sunday, September 13 to take on the Dalhousie Tigers, while the Huskies host the visiting Mount Allison Mounties on Sunday afternoon.
