Sea-Hawks defeat Huskies 3-0 to split weekend series

The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in St. John's, NL.

The Sea-Hawks controlled the play early and scored the opening goal in the 13th minute, when midfielder Alex Dolomount crossed the ball onto the head of defender Troy Petrie, who directed it past Huskies goalkeeper Stephen Bowen (San Fernando, Trinidad) to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

The Sea-Hawks would double their lead in the 36th minute, after striker Jacob Grant converted a penalty kick.

The Huskies nearly responded moments later, as midfielder Colby Mercer (Beaverbank, NS) fired a long shot that went off the crossbar, and the rebound attempt by Ben Kloppenburg (Halifax, NS) was covered up by Sea-Hawks goalkeeper Louis-Charles Vaillancourt to keep the 2-0 lead heading into the half.

Saint Mary's had a few quality chances early in the second half but couldn't capitalize. In the 61st minute, Sea-Hawks forward Colin Connors fired a shot that tested Bowen, but he made an impressive save to keep the deficit at two goals.

The Sea-Hawks would score their third and final goal in the 77th minute, after midfielder Cabhan O'Keefe delivered a pass to a streaking Jacob Grant, who scored his second of the game and secured the 3-0 victory for the home side.

Sea-Hawks goalkeeper Louis-Charles Vaillancourt made two saves for the clean sheet, while Huskies goalkeeper Stephen Bowen stopped two shots in defeat.
