MacKinnon scores 25 in 92-69 win over Tigers

(Halifax, NS) – The Saint Mary's Huskies faced their crosstown rival Dalhousie Tigers in the AUS regular season matchup Wednesday evening. Led by Kendra MacKinnon (Pictou, NS), the Huskies took the game with the score of 92-69.

 

The Huskies came out aggressive on the defensive and offensive ends of the floor. They forced a near 24 seconds shot clock violation, stealing the ball twice and converting on the first six shots. The Huskies took an early 13-0 lead.

 

Alaina McMillan (Brantford, ON) caught fire early in the game, as she hit four of her first five attempts and help the Huskies early in the first quarter of play.

 

The Tigers struggled in the first quarter as they couldn't find basket. They shot 4-14 from the field and turned the ball over seven times.

 

With a minute and a half left, the Tigers brought in Morgan Gause (Baltimore, MD) she went on to hit a three and an and-one to get the team some momentum before going to the break. At the end of the first, the Huskies led the Tigers 26-11.

 

After a strong first quarter, the Huskies picked up where they left off and extend their lead to 20 led by McMillan with 14 points and MacKinnon with 10; they led 47-27.

 

MacKinnon started the second half of basketball with six points after she hit two three pointers back-to-back.

 

The Huskies fell into an early foul trouble in the third quarter and gave the Tigers an opportunity to take the momentum in their hands, but the Tigers couldn't find a way to stop the Huskies at the three-point line.

 

The Huskies were 14 for 30 from the three at the end of the third as they led 72-53.

 

The Huskies continued to shoot from the three led by both MacKinnon and McMillan. They both combined for 13-19. The Huskies continued to ride the momentum and keep the lead.

 

Subway player of the game went to MacKinnon. She led the Huskies with 25 points, six rebounds and six assists.

 

The Huskies will once again face the Tigers on Saturday, but this time, it will take place at Dalplex in Halifax, NS.
