Saint Mary’s tops Concordia 3-0 in exhibition play

(Antigonish, NS)  In the first game of the four-team round robin format Thursday afternoon, Justine MacIntosh (East St. Paul, MA) made 10 saves for the shutout as the Saint Mary's Huskies beat the Concordia Stingers 3-0.

Late in the first period, at 18:52, junior Brenna Lanceleve (Middle Sackville, NS) opened the scoring for the Huskies, on an assist from third-year forward Laura Polak (Bedford, NS).

With less than one second remaining in the first 20 minutes, senior forward Caitlyn Schell (Waterford, NS) gave Saint Mary's a 2-0 advantage, with junior forward Caitlyn Manning (Cambridge, ON) and senior defender Carly Gray (Williamswood, NS) garnering assists.

In the first period, the Huskies outshot the Stingers 8-1.

The teams played to a scoreless second period, with Saint Mary's holding a 5-3 edge over Concordia in shots on goal.

Polak, with her second point, wrapped up the scoring at 6:26 of the third period. Lanceleve, also with her second point of the game, and junior defender Celine Van de Molen (Cochrane, AB) collected the assists.

Polak was named player of the game for the Huskies, while Erica Porter (Coaticook, QC) received the honour for the Stingers.

Briar Bache (Barrie, ON) of the Stingers turned aside 15 shots in the loss.

The Huskies outshot the Stingers 18-10, with both sides unable to score on the power play.

Action resumes Friday afternoon, when the Warriors (0-1) and Huskies (1-0) face-off at 4 p.m. At 7 p.m., the X-Women (1-0) will drop the puck against the Stingers (0-1).
