X-Women Edge Huskies 3-2 OT in exhibition

(Halifax, NS)  Friday evening at Alumni Arena, the visiting Saint Francis Xavier X-Women defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 3-2 in double overtime in AUS women's hockey exhibition action.

Saint Mary's opened the scoring when Laura Polak (Bedford, NS) tipped in a shot from the point at 6:30 on the powerplay to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. The X-Women responded when Kara Power (New Glasgow, NS) scored in the slot at 19:30 on a 5 on 3 powerplay to make it 1-1 after the first period.

Both teams went scoreless in the second period.

In the third, Saint Mary's went ahead when Moira MacDonald (Cole Harbour, NS) tallied from in close to make it 2-1. The X-Women tied it up again when Subway player of the game Sarah Bujold (Riverview, NB) converted from the slot to make it 2-2 after regulation. Both teams were unable to win it in the 4 on 4 overtime.

n the 3 on 3 double overtime, Bujold potted the winner on a partial breakaway on a delayed penalty to give the X-Women the victory.

The Huskies outshot the X-Women 40-30. Pascale Daigle (Irishtown, NB) made 38 saves in get the win in net for the X-Women. Justine MacIntosh (East St. Paul, MA) stopped 27 shots for the Huskies.

The X-Women conclude their exhibition schedule tomorrow afternoon at home against the Dalhousie Tigers at 3:00 pm. The Huskies' exhibition finale goes Sunday on the road against the Tigers as well at 6:30.
