Rebecca Clark named U Sports Female Athlete of the Week

TORONTO (U Sports) – Rebecca Clark from Saint Mary's University and Samuel Wang from McGill University are the ArcelorMittal Dofasco U Sports female and male athletes of the week for the period ending November 20.

Clark, a second-year environmental science student from Keswick, Ont., recorded two shutouts this weekend, extending her shutout streak to three games. The Huskies goaltender made 27 saves on Saturday, backstopping the Huskies to a 2-0 win over UPEI. On Sunday, she would make another 14 saves against the Dalhousie Tigers for a 1-0 win. Clark's goals-against-average of 1.20 puts her second in the nation, while her save percentage of .948 is tied for thirds in the country.

UBC hockey player Kathleen Cahoon, along with basketball players Kellie Ring from Ryerson, and Jessica Lubin from UQAM were also nominated for the women's award.

Wang, a first-year biochemistry student from Sherbrooke, Que., broke an RSEQ record at the AUS Kemp Fry Invitational over the weekend, finishing the 50-metre butterfly race in a time of 23.85 seconds, the fastest in the country this season. He would add a gold medal in the 100-metre butterfly with a time of 53.54 seconds, as well as a fourth place finish in the 100m freestyle. The impressive performance qualified the Redmen rookie for the U Sports Swimming Championships in late February in his hometown.

Volleyball player Kristen O'Brien from Dalhousie, hockey player Tristan Frei of Regina, and basketball player Tanner Graham from Queen's were also nominated for the award.
