Clark’s third shutout in four games helps Huskies top Aigles Bleus 1-0

The Saint Mary's University Huskies beat the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus 1-0 on Saturday Nov. 26 at Alumni Arena in Halifax NS. The win gives the Huskies a 10-1-2 record and has them just one point back of the STU Tommies for top spot in the AUS. The loss leaves the Aigles Bleus with a 4-7-3 record good for fifth in the standings.

Rebecca Clark (Keswick, ON) was perfect in goal for the Huskies stopping all 13 shots she faced to pick up the shutout. It was the third time in the last four games she has not allowed a goal. She now has a 7-3 record on the season with a stellar .947 save percentage.

Breanna Lanceleve (Middle Sackville, NS) (4) scored the games only goal.

Gabrielle Forget (Joliette, QC) was the best player for the Aigles Bleus making 26 saves. Her record falls to 4-6.

It was a tight checking game with little time or space for either team to create offensively.

The Huskies scored their goal with just over a minute left in the first at the 18:38 mark of the period. A missed Aigles Bleus shot rattled off the glass to Lanceleve just inside the Huskies blue line she fed Laura Polak (Bedford, NS) in the neutral zone who carried up the left-wing into the Aigles Bleus zone and put a drop pass onto the stick of Lanceleve just inside the top of the circle Lanceleve ripped her shot under the bar glove side for a beauty goal and the game-winner.

The Huskies outshot the Aigles Bleus 27-13.

Up next:

Both teams are off for the exam and holiday break. The Aigles Bleus will go on the road to play the Mount Allison Mounties on Friday January 6 in Sackville NB while the Huskies will host the Mounties at Alumni Arena in Halifax NS on Saturday January 7.
