Huskies 5-4 in double OT over Aigles Bleues

MONCTON – Breanna Lanceleve's third goal of the game, with 19 seconds left to play in overtime, lifted the Saint Mary's University Huskies (16-2-3=35pts, 1st position) to a 5-4 overtime win against the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (6-11-3=15pts, 5th position) in an Atlantic University Sport women's hockey game, Sunday, at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The Huskies led 3-1 going in the third and Moncton managed three goals and the visitors, one. The Katryne Villeneuve (Marie-Pier Corriveau, Judyane Bernier) marker, at 19:39, was the tying goal (4-4) for Moncton with an extra attacker replacing the goaltender and send the game in overtime.  

Cassandra Labrie (Katrine Dubuc, Katryne Villeneuve), at 1 :36 and Marie-Pier Corriveau (Villeneuve), at 11:25, both on the power play, had given Moncton a 3-3 tie. Mary Wondl gave the visitors another lead, at 14:18, setting the scenario for the Villeneuve goal. Brooke Murphy had the other Huskies marker, a shorthanded 5 on 3 affair in the opening period. Brittany Poitras (Julie Thériault, Judyane Bernier), was the other scorer for the Blue and Gold, in the first. There was no second period scoring.

Gabrielle Forget began the game in nets for Moncton, allowing two goals in the first four minutes, on three shots. She was replaced by Subway player of the game, Sabrina Lebrun, who was solid with 36 shots and a number of breakaways. Rebecca Clarke handled 36 shots for the winners, including 12 in the third period.

The Blue and Gold will host de Dalhousie University Tigers, Friday at 7 p.m. and the Mount Allison University Mounties, Sunday at 2 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena for the last regular season home games.
