Huskies fall 5-2 to Aigles Bleues

Player of the game Elizabeth Galipeau scored twice on similar shots into the top of the net to help the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (4-2-0-1=9pts, 3rd position) defeat the Saint Mary's University Huskies (3-2-0-1=7pts, 5th position) 5 -2 at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in an Atlantic University Sport women's hockey game Wednesday evening.

It was the battle for 3rd or 4th place with clubs with similar records, but Wednesday was the Aigles Bleues evening as they led 27 (15-6-6) to 21 (6-11-4) in shots on goal and scored on 2 of 7 power plays. Both Huskies' goals also came on the power play on 3 occasions.

Gillian Lapierre, the Huskies player of the game, gave her team a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of the first period.

Galipeau, with her first, tied the game with 20 seconds left in the period, with both goals on the power play.

Kate Gallant gave the visitors a 2-1 lead sending a loose puck in front of Annick Boudreau's into the net at 6:10 of the second period.

Five minutes later, Lianne Desforges tied the game at 2-2 and Emilie Comeau scored the winner at 15:51.

Moncton never looked back after that goal. Erica Plourde at 3:15 and Galipeau with her second on the power play at 11:16 confirmed the Aigles Bleues' lead in the third period. Emilie Lalancette and Valérie Haché had 2 assists for Moncton.

Ridleigh took the loss in net and Annick Boudreau scored the win.

Moncton will take on the St. Thomas University Tommies on Saturday in Fredericton. Saint Mary's visits the Mount Allison University Mounties on Friday.
