MacLean's goal lifts Huskies to 2-1 win over Aigles Bleues

MONCTON, NB - Saint Mary's forward Kara MacLean scored the game-winning goal, as the Huskies defeated the Moncton Aigles Bleues 2-1 in Atlantic University Sport Women's Hockey action on Thursday night in Moncton.

Huskies forward Mackenzie Beggs (Kemptville, ON) opened the scoring late in the first period, after a wild scramble saw shot attempts from several Huskies including forwards Abby McCarthy (Falmouth, NS) and Keyara Nelson (Belleville, ON) who both recorded assists on the play. 

Aigles Bleues forward Lianne Desforges equalized with a goal in the second period.

With the two teams deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the third period, the Huskies went on the powerplay, with forward Kara MacLean (Antigonish, NS) scoring the go-ahead goal 6:47 into the final frame.

Huskies goaltender Ridleigh Hansen (Red Deer, AB) turned away 26 shots for the win, while Annick Boudreau stopped 22 shots for the Aigles Bleues.

The Huskies win improves their record to 9-5-1-1 on the campaign. Saint Mary's will be back on home ice on Saturday, as they host the U SPORTS #7 ranked UNB REDS (13-3-0-0) at 7 p.m. at the Dauphinee Centre.

The Aigles Bleues loss drops their record to 9-7-0-2 on the season. The Aigles Bleues will also be back on home ice on Saturday, hosting the UPEI Panthers at 2 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
