Buffie's late goal secures Huskies 1-0 win over Tommies

FREDERICTON, NB - Saint Mary's Huskies forward Charlotte Buffie scored the game-winning goal late in the third period, and goaltender Ridleigh Hansen turned away 29 shots for the 1-0 shutout win over the St. Thomas Tommies in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action on Saturday night at the Grant Harvey Centre in Fredericton.

The opening period saw the Huskies pressing the Tommies at the start, coming close to breaking the deadlock. However, despite efforts from both teams, the first period concluded with a scoreless tie.

The second period brought opportunities for both squads. Trinity Webber of the Tommies had some clear chances to score, but the puck remained elusive. On the other end, Huskies defender Maddy Corbett (Sydney, NS) nearly found the back of the net twice, only to be denied by Katie Sweeney.

As the third period commenced, the game remained deadlocked. It wasn't until min 6:41 that Huskies first year forward Charlotte Buffie (Winnipeg, MB) managed to break through, securing the only goal of the night.

Huskies goaltender Ridleigh Hansen (Red Deer, AB) turned away 29 shots for the shutout, while Tommies netminder Katie Sweeney turned away 33 shots in the loss.
