StFX X-Women defeat host SMU Huskies 66-5 in AUS rugby action

Halifax, NS - The CIS No. 6 ranked StFX W-Women scored 12 tries in a 66-5 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies Tuesday night in AUS women's rugby action.

 

The defending national champions opened up the scoring 7-0 on a Alyssa MacDonald (Windsor, NS) try and Jacqui Salvatore (Scarborough, ON) added two more points on a converted kick.

 

Nicole Tower (Bass River, NS) stretched the X-Women lead 12-0 with a try of her own.

 

Halifax native Amanda Hatfield's try extended the StFX cushion 17-0.

 

Tries by Tasha McKenzie (Indian Brook, NS) and June Beals (North Preston, NS) had it 22-0 and 27-0.

 

Hatfield`s second try of the half ended the first half 32-0 StFX.

 

McKenzie and Beals started the second half each with tries and saw StFX jump out to leads of 37-0 and 44-0 with a Salvatore conversion.

 

Duncan, BC native Hanna Morten`s try extended the lead 49-0, followed by a try from Kathleen Haggarty (Orleans, ON) and a Salvatore conversion kick put StFX up 56-0.

 

SMU got on the scoreboard with a Jillian Green (Halifax, NS) try and Sarah Penney (Dartmouth, NS) missed the conversion for a 56-5 StFX lead.

 

Another Morten try (61-5) and a Joanne Callow (Kanata, ON) try (66-5) ended the scoring.

 

StFX improves to 4-1 and ends their season 2pm Sunday Oct. 18 at 5-0 Acadia.

 

SMU drops to 0-5 and finishes up the AUS regular season Saturday Oct. 17th at 2pm, travelling to 1-4 UPEI.

 

5th year player Hannah Wallace (New Glasgow, NS) played her final home game at Huskies Stadium. Also playing were 4th year players Danielle Cable (Belnan, NS) and Amy Thompson (Halifax, NS).
