Sea-Hawks defeat Huskies 4-0 in St. John's

The Memorial Sea-Hawks (3-1-1) defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies (0-3-0), on Saturday afternoon at King George Field in St. John's, NL.

During the first 20 minutes, the game stayed still at 0-0. There was an abundance of corner kicks for both teams but neither team could find the back of the net.

The Sea-Hawks broke through in the 22nd minute, as winger Claire Langille body passed the ball in front of the net where she found midfielder Grace Nolan who hit it past Huskies goalie Grace Morrison (Halifax, NS) to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Memorial would double their lead just over 10 minutes later, as winger Kate Hickey fired a shot from just inside the 18-yard box, into the top corner of the net to put the Sea-Hawks ahead 2-0, which would be the score heading into half-time.

The second half began with a few chances for both teams, but neither was able to convert. The Sea-Hawks nearly scored in the 67th minute after a scramble in front of the goal, but Morrison made a great save to keep her team within two.

The Sea-Hawks would score again in the 78th minute, as forward Zoe Rowe fired a long shot that found the top of the net to make it 3-0. Memorial would add on another late goal, as fullback Kendra Schram connected with Claire Langille for the fourth and final goal of the day.

Sea-Hawks goalkeeper Shannon Galway stopped four shots for the clean sheet, while Huskies keeper Grace Morrison made six saves in the losing effort.

The Huskies and Sea-Hawks will meet again on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 11:45 Atlantic Time.
