Aigles Bleues win 3-1 over Huskies

(MONCTON, NB) -- Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (4-12=8pts, 5th position) were 3-1 winners over Saint Mary's University Huskies (5-10=10pts, 4th position) in an Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball game played on Sunday afternoon at the CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud gymnasium.

The Monette Boudreau-Carroll coached team won 25-13, 22-25, 25-21 and 25-21. Émilie Landry was chosen as Subway player of the game. It was the last home game of the season for Moncton.

Pascale Doiron led the offense with 30 attacks followed by Émilie Landry, 29 and Christelle Bertin, 28. Rachelle Lemoine had 24. Landry added 14 kills and Lemoine, 12. Bertin also had 18 digs and Doiron, 14. The best for the Huskies were Erica Dowling with 42 attacks and Tessa Micheals, 15 digs.

Aigles centre, Alyssa Turenne, left the court after a bad fall in the third set and did not return to play. The Aigles needed to adjust to the loss of this starting player.

''We had ups and downs today, '' said coach Monette Boudreau-Carroll. "We lost an important part of our team and we had to adjust to get the win. There are very few teams capable of doing that. The Huskies have a very good team. The win is great for our confidence. We also played very good sets on Saturday against Dalhousie. We can also beat that team. We need to progress and move forward now with one game left against the Varsity Reds. We will do our best to win.''

Subway player of the game, Émilie Landry, played well during the four sets. ''The last without Alyssa Turenne forced us to change and adapt,'' said the rookie player. "We have a great even team and all the players rose to the challenge. The energy from Saturday against the Tigers was with us and we learned from our mistakes. We did what we had to win."

The Blue and Gold will end its regular season this Friday as they travel to Fredericton for an encounter with the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds (3-13=6pts, 6th place).  The Huskies host Memorial in their last two regular season games, Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
