Huskies wrap up AUS League Tournament with win over Sea-Hawks

The Saint Mary's Huskies (5-3) were able to wrap up a successful tournament weekend with a 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-15) victory over the host Memorial Sea-Hawks (0-8) at the MUN Fieldhouse.

The Huskies were fast out of the gate, taking a commanding 19-10 lead over the Sea-Hawks in the first set, however, a late surge by the Sea-Hawks made it interesting. The Sea-Hawks were able to get the set to a manageable score of 22-20 before eventually falling 25-21 in the opening set. The following set contained the most dramatics from the match, a back-and-forth battle that saw the lead change several times before the Huskies were able to escape with a 26-24 advantage. In the 3rd and final set the Huskies jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back, taking the set by a score of 25-15.

Huskies middle Madison Hann (Conquerall Mills, NS) was named Subway Player of the Game with six kills, four blocks and two service aces. All-Star outside hitter Olivia Bell (Lahave, NS) was at her best once again for the Huskies, attacking from all over the court to the tune of 14 kills, and was active on the defensive adding nine digs in the match. Megan Bruhm (Hubley, NS) was also very effective for the Huskies, racking up seven kills and a team-high 10 digs.

For the Sea-Hawks Emily Batt was the most productive on the attack, grabbing seven kills on the game to go along with eight digs. Janeen Pellat was extremely efficient in her attacks, registering six kills and a team-high kill% of .250. Karen Greek provided good setting for the hosts, racking up 19 assists on the match.

Finishing the tournament with a 2-1 record, the Huskies have wrapped up the 2022 portion of their schedule with a 5-3 record, and will next play on Friday, Jan. 13 as they host the Moncton Aigles Bleues.
