Rookie Andrew Peverill Shines at Rouge et Or Cross Country Meet

This past weekend, representatives from the men and women's Cross Country team travelled to Quebec City to compete in the Rouge et Or Cross Country meet hosted by Laval University at the historic Plains of Abraham in Quebec City. For the first time in U-Sport history, the women raced 8km as opposed to the traditional 6km and the men raced in the 10km event. Post race commentary from many of the athletes revealed that the Plains of Abraham is being regarded as one of the more technical and challenging courses to date. First year student athlete Andrew Peverill showed his strength over 10km by placing 4th in a time of 32.11 – only 28 seconds behind last years U-Sport (former CIS) Champion Yves Sikubwabo of Laval University. Peverill was the first AUS athlete across the finish line outkicking Angus Rawling of St. F. X and veteran athletes Calvin Dewolfe of Dalhousie University and Lee Wesselius from UPEI. Jonathan Peverill was the second Huskie across the finish line finishing 39th in a time of 34:41 followed by Ian MacDonald. The men placed 10th overall. On the women's side, second year student athlete Paige Roszak covered the 8km distance in a time of 37:20.

Next up, the Huskies will compete this coming weekend at St.F.X. Race distances are 6km for the women and 8km for the men. This will be the final regular season meet leading into the AUS Championships on October 28th. The men and women will race to compete at the U-Sport Championships in Victoria, British Columbia in November.
