Huskies Esports League of Legends team finishes second at Tomorrow LAN

The Saint Mary's Huskies League of Legends team put on an impressive performance at the 'Tomorrow LAN' Esports gaming competition held on March 4, in Moncton at the Université de Moncton, finishing in second place overall.

The Huskies fought valiantly throughout the tournament, demonstrating their exceptional skills and teamwork in every match, a marked improvement from their last tournament play at Frag for Cancer in November.

The following student-athletes represented the Huskies at Tomorrow LAN;

  • Ronen Franzman – OldEnderCookie
  • Eric Mullaley - MrTwinkiee
  • Evan Collins - EXPEDITION
  • Soud Ali - SOUD
  • Colin Robertson - KingOfFish
  • Team Manager: Ben Jackson - Jaxon
  • Team Coach: Connor Miller - Thornwise

The competition was fierce, with some of the best university and non-university teams in the region competing for the top spot. However, the Huskies showed no signs of intimidation, winning several key matches early in the round-robin, going 3-0 in the university pool to emerge as the second overall seed in the tournament playoffs.

In the semi-finals the Huskies faced off against a formidable opponent, 'Jungle Gab' but they didn't back down. The team played with precision and strategy, executing their moves flawlessly and making some impressive plays. However, their opponent proved to be a tough nut to crack, and the Huskies ultimately fell just short. Still, the Huskies had redemption on their mind, and preserved through their next two matches in the 'losers bracket', ultimately facing off once again against team 'Jungle Gab'.

The Huskies came up victorious in the rematch, winning a spot in the championship match against Tournament favourite, 'Wings of Justice'. The Huskies started off the final match off strong, but ultimately fell to a very strong team in 'Wings of Justice', who claimed the championship trophy.

Despite not taking home the top prize, the SMU Huskies League of Legends team showed incredible sportsmanship and professionalism throughout the tournament, earning the respect of their competitors and fans alike.

Coach Connor Miller was incredibly proud of the team's performance, saying:
"We came into this tournament with a lot of determination and a clear strategy, and the team executed it brilliantly. Although we didn't win, we still achieved an amazing feat, and I couldn't be prouder of the team's effort."

The SMU Huskies League of Legends team has shown that they have what it takes to compete at the highest level of university Esports in Canada, and we can't wait to see what they'll achieve next!

Congratulations to the team on their impressive second-place finish at the 'Tomorrow LAN'!
