Getson’s hat-trick leads Huskies to 5-2 win over Aigles Bleus

HALIFAX, NS- Saint Mary's forward Keith Getson scored a hat-trick, leading the Huskies to 5-2 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleus on Saturday night at the Dauphinee Centre in Halifax.

The Huskies opened the scoring midway on a powerplay midway through the first period, when forward Charlie Dafonseca (Thornhill, ON) centred the puck, and Keith Getson (Bridgewater, NS), dropped to one knee and beat Aigles Bleus goaltender Étienne Montpetit (Valleyfield, QC) to give the home team a 1-0 lead, 9:11 into the first period.

The Aigles Bleus had several scoring opportunities, and outshot the Huskies 15-6 in the first period, but Huskies goaltender Jeremy Helvig (Kingston, ON) was able to keep them off the scoresheet, and the Huskies took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Just under seven minutes into the second period, the Huskies would double their lead. Forward Nathan Dunkley (Campbellford, ON) was able to dispossess a Moncton player behind their goal and delivered the pass to Getson who scored his second of the night to give the home team a 2-0 lead, 6:46 into the second period.

The Huskies would add another powerplay marked later in the period, as forward Sam King (Hampton, NB) deflected home the rebound of a Liam Van Loon (London, ON) shot. King's fifth goal of the season gave the Huskies a 3-0 lead with 6:53 remaining in the second.

The Aigles Bleus would cut into the Huskies lead with five minutes remaining in the period when forward Rémy Anglehart (Gascon, QC) played a nice pass for a streaking Edouard St-Laurent (Lévis, QC), who fired a shot that Helvig got a piece off but trickled across the goal line to cut the lead to 3-1.

The Huskies outshot the Aigles Bleus 10-9 in the second period, and took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.

Getson would secure the hat-trick and restore the Huskies three goal lead just 18 seconds into the third period, as he scored a powerplay goal off a nice feed from defenceman Dennis Busby (Oro-Medonte, ON) for the Huskies third powerplay goal of the night, putting them up 4-1.

Midway through the period, Nathan Dunkley scored off a partial breakaway, putting the Huskies up 5-1. Dunkley's sixth goal of the season also marked his third point of the night (one goal, two assists).

With just over three minutes remaining, the Aigles Bleus would get one back, as Rémy Anglehart deflected a shot past Helvig to cut the Huskies lead to 5-2, which would remain the final score.

The Aigles Bleus outshot the Huskies 10-8 in the third period, giving them a 34-24 total shot advantage for the game. Huskies goaltender Jeremy Helvig made 32 saves for the win, while Aigles Bleus goaltender Étienne Montpetit (Valleyfield, QC) stopped 19 shots.

Huskies forward Keith Getson was named Subway Player of the Game with three goals. Getson scored twice on the powerplay, added four shots on goal, won 15/24 faceoffs attempted and was a +2 on the night. Getson has now scored eight goals in the Huskies last seven games, and has tied forward Andrew Coxhead (Bedford, NS) with a team-leading 12 goals on the season.
