Huskies defeat REDS 3-2 for fourth straight win

FREDERICTON, NB - The Saint Mary's Huskies won their fourth consecutive game, defeating the UNB REDS 3-2 in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action at UNB's BMO Centre on Saturday.

In a back-and-forth first half, the Huskies took a 1-0 lead on a goal in the 45th minute by Colby Mercer (Beaverbank, NS).

The half-time break was an extended one as officials made repairs to one of the BMO Centre nets.

The two teams then combined for four goals in an exciting second half.

The REDS drew even in the 58th minute on an own goal by Huskies defender Woody Bain (Dartmouth, NS). But Bain would respond minutes later with back-to-back assists.

Three minutes later, Sean Freeman (Halifax, NS) restored the Saint Mary's lead and six minutes after that, Will Brown (Halifax, NS) pushed that lead to 3-1.

Following a handball call in the 83rd minute, Luke Rosettani (Ottawa, ON) trimmed the Huskies' lead to 3-2 on a penalty kick.

SMU keeper Ryan Davis (Lake Loon, NS) made the initial stop, but Rosettani pounced on the rebound and scored.

With the victory, the Huskies are now 4-2-0 (W-L-T) and sit atop the AUS standings. Their next action is Thursday, when they host Acadia. That game is scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start. GET TICKETS
