Peverill claims 3000m in first Track & Field meet

(Halifax, NS) The Huskies Track and Field teams opened their season on Saturday at the Athletics NS Last Chance Meet at the Canada Games Centre. In the first AUS competition of the season, the Huskies showed well with some notable results and personal bests.

In the men's 3000m, men's team captain Andrew Peverill placed 1st in a time of 8:29.22, finishing well ahead of the rest of the field. That finish, will place him top 12 in the U Sports 3000m rankings out this week.

In the women's 1000m, 2nd year athlete Bhreagh Burke placed 1st in a time of 3:04.62.

Third year athlete Matthew Carlton started off the season with two personal bests in the 60m and 300m. Carlton crossed the line in 7.49 for the 60m and 38.07 for the 300m, placing first in both of his heats.

In the women's 60m, a contingent of maroon and white raced with many of the women finishing in new personal best times.

Second year student-athlete Emily Batt, and women's team captain Kelly MacInnis, sprinted to new personal bests of 8.37 and 8.44 while placing first in their respective heats in the process. Batt and MacInnis also reached new personal bests in the other events they competed in. Batt jumped 4.50m in the long jump and MacInnis finished with a 45.14 in the 300m.

Second year athletes Sophie Leblanc (46.17) and Abby Dunn (46.93) both recorded personal bests in the 300m, along with the other events they competed in. Leblanc with a 1:50.24 in the 600m and Dunn with an 8.62 in the 60m.

The Huskies next competition will take place January 17th and 18th at the Athletics NS Open in Halifax.
