Andrew Peverill wins 1000m at the SMU Open

(Halifax, NS) The SMU Huskies hosted their annual home meet, the SMU Open Sunday at the Canada Games Centre. This was the last regular season meet of the season.

Highlights of the meet included Andrew Peverill running a time of 2:26.79 to win the men's 1000m, which place him in the top 6 of the country, and Emily Batt continued her tear of performances by improving her own school record in the 60m hurdles, this time with a time of 9.50.

On the men's side, a trio of Huskies ran personal bests in the 1000m. Kyle Caie crossed the line in a time of 2:32.09, Joe Stewart in 2:37.05 and Nick Burgers-Lamontagne in 2:42.38.

In the women's 60m, Emily Batt and Fiona Roberts both sprinted to the line in personal bests with times of 8.35 and 8.72 respectively.  Roberts also ran a personal best in the 300m with a time of 48.42. Abby Dunn crossed the line in the 300m to break her personal best in a time of 46.08.

Later in the women's 600m, Sophie Leblanc and Sarah Polak finished in personal bests. Leblanc finished in a time of 1:46.76 and Polak in a time of 1:51.12.

The Huskies now draw their focus to the AUS Championships which are being held Feb. 21-22 in Saint John, NB.
