Huskies defeat Sea-Hawks 75-54 to finish regular season with a league-best 17-3 record
ST. JOHN'S, NL - Four Saint Mary's starters - Lucina Beaumont, Courtney Donaldson, Clara Gascoigne and Alaina McMillan - scored in double figures, leading the Huskies to a 75-54 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks in Atlantic University Sport women's basketball action on Saturday night at the Memorial Fieldhouse in St. John's, NL.
The first quarter saw Clara Gascoigne (Dartmouth, NS) put up a team-high seven points, and a last second jumper from guard Courtney Donaldson (Kelowna, BC) gave the Huskies a 22-16 lead after 10 minutes of play.

Gascoigne continued her torrid scoring into the second quarter, once again putting up seven points to lead the Huskies. A late score from forward Emily Dikdan (Sudbury, ON) gave Saint Mary's a 44-27 lead going into halftime.

Gascoigne led the way with 14 first-half points, while Courtney Donaldson chipped in seven. The Sea-Hawks were led by 10 points a piece from the duo of Alana Short (Barrie, ON) and Hannah Green (Flatrock, NL).
The third quarter saw the Huskies add onto their lead, led by eight points from Donaldson, with a lay-in from guard Aki Kobayashi (Hyogo, Japan) putting the visitors ahead 60-37, the largest lead of the night. The Sea-Hawks fought back with guard Alyssa Jenkins (St. John's, NL) going on a personal 9-0 run to end the quarter, with the Huskies taking a 60-46 lead into the final quarter.

The Sea-Hawks momentum continued into the fourth quarter, as they continued their run to 17-0, cutting the Huskies lead to 60-54, before a three-pointer from forward Lucina Beaumont (Fredericton, NB) broke the scoring drought. Beaumont continued her run with another three and a lay-in off a dish from Alaina McMillan (Brantford, ON). The Huskies senior guard McMillan then finished off the Sea-Hawks with a dagger three-pointer to grow the lead back to 71-54, with Aki Kobayashi hitting two more lay-ins as the Huskies finished the game on a 15-0 run to secure the 75-54 victory.

The Huskies were led by Lucina Beaumont with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double, earning Player of the Game honours. Courtney Donaldson added 15 points, Clara Gascoigne scored 14 and Alaina McMillan chipped in 10 points and a game-high six assists.
The Sea-Hawks were led by a game-high 20 points by Hannah Green, while Alana Short posted a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double and Alyssa Jenkins added 14 points.
With the win, the Huskies finish the regular season with a 17-3 record, their best record since the 2015-16 season when they finished 19-1 and went on to win the CIS Bronze Medal. The Huskies will be the top seed and have a bye to the semifinal in next weekend's AUS Championship, where they will meet the winner of the #4 UPEI Panthers vs. #5 STFX X-Women quarterfinal on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. at the Scotiabank Centre. The Sea-Hawks loss drops them to 9-11 on the season, as they sneak into next weekend's AUS Championship playoffs as the #6 seed, and will take on the #3 seed Acadia Axewomen on Friday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Scotiabank Centre
