
Huskies defeat Mounties 5-1 for fourth straight win
HALIFAX, NS - The Saint Mary's Huskies won their fourth straight game, defeating the Mount Allison Mounties 5-1 on Friday night at the Dauphinee Centre in Halifax.
Just over 12 minutes into the first period, the Huskies powerplay struck when Kara MacLean (Antigonish, NS) took a pass from Miranda Hatt (Eastern Passage, NS) and put the puck past Mounties goaltender Bianca Zak (Stonewall, MB) to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

With just under two minutes remaining in the period, MacLean doubled the Huskies lead, after Huskies captain Caleigh Meraw (Red Deer, AB) banked a shot off the end boards with the rebounding ending up on MacLean's stick, and she made no mistake to give Saint Mary's a 2-0 lead.

The Huskies outshot the Mounties 14-2 in the first period and went into the first intermission leading 2-0.
Just three minutes into the second period, the Huskies added to their lead, as forward Ellen Laurence (Kentville, NS) dispossessed a Mounties defenceman on the forecheck and left the puck for Hatt, who made no mistake beating Zak top corner for her fourth goal of the season.

The Huskies outshot the Tommies 17-2 in the second period and took a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
The Mounties cut into the lead early in the third period, as forward Jenna Miller (Sudbury, ON) picked up the puck in the Huskies zone and fired a backhand from a tough angle that slipped by Huskies goaltender Sophie Scully (Ottawa, ON) to cut the lead to 3-1.
Nearly five minutes later, the Huskies restored the three-goal lead. Defenceman Maddy Corbett (Sydney, NS) intercepted a Mounties pass at her own blue line and skated in on goal, deking around a Mounties defender before beating Zak with a top shelf wrister to give the home team a 4-1 lead.

Huskies forward Katelyn Gallant (Brooklin, ON) had several good scoring chances throughout the game, and finally got one to go halfway through the third period, taking a pass from Laurence and deflecting it past Zak for her second goal of the season, giving the Huskies their fifth and final score of the night.

Huskies forward Miranda Hatt was named Subway Player of the Game with a goal and an assist. Teammates Kara MacLean (two goals) and Ellen Laurence (two assists) also recorded multi-point nights for the Huskies.
Mounties goaltender Bianca Zak was outstanding, stopping 49 shots for the Mounties, while Huskies goaltender Sophie Scully made four saves for the win.
The Huskies fourth straight win improved their record to 8-4-0 on the campaign. They'll be back on home ice tomorrow, hosting the U SPORTS #1 ranked UNB REDS, Saturday at 3 p.m. GET TICKETS
The Mounties loss dropped their record to 1-13-0 on the season. They'll be back on the road next weekend, taking on the Moncton Aigles Bleues on Friday, before returning to the Dauphinee Centre to visit the Huskies on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 3 p.m.
