Hatt scores twice as Huskies defeat Mounties 4-2

Saint Mary's forward Miranda Hatt scored twice, helping lead the Huskies to a 4-2 road win over the Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday night in Sackville, N.B.

Mount Allison sustained the early pressure from the Huskies and were rewarded with the game's first goal as fourth-year forward Lauren Steele (Stratford, PEI) buried the puck in tight.

The Huskies would respond less than five minutes later as Miranda Hatt (Eastern Passage, NS) made no mistake to tie the game at 1-1. Shots after 20 minutes would favour the visiting team 18-5.

Hatt would add her second of the night on the powerplay at the 1:37 mark of the second period to give the Huskies their first lead.

The Mounties would build off the crowd's energy and tie the game moments later as Mollie Grabe (Carleton Place, ON) slotted the rebound in the back of the net.

Saint Mary's would take the lead once again before the end of the second period as forward Kara MacLean (Antigonish, NS) scored her eighth goal on the season to make it 3-2 Huskies.

The Huskies would pull away with a goal on the powerplay courtesy of a nice tip from Kate Gallant (Brooklin, ON).

Pacing the Mounties in nets was Kaitlyn Evelyn (Courtice, ON) as she steered away 40 of the 44 shots she faced. Huskies goalie Sophie Scully (Ottawa, ON) would go on to save 18 shots.

Subway Player of the Game would go to Miranda Hatt (Eastern Passage, NS) as she finished with two goals on five shots.

The Huskies win improves their record to 13-8-1 overall. They'll be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 25, as they host the Dalhousie Tigers at 7 p.m. at the Dauphinee Centre. GET TICKETS
