Huskies win fourth straight with 6-1 victory over Mounties

The Saint Mary's Huskies women's hockey team won their fourth straight game, in a commanding 6-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties on Wednesday night in Sackville, NB.

It would be the home Mounties who would strike first with 6:17 left in the first period as fifth-year forward Tallon Stephenson (Lloydminster, AB) found the back of the net to give the hosts the 1-0 advantage.

The Huskies would soon equalize however as Maddy Corbett (Sydney, NS) scored on the powerplay with 3:02 remaining in the period to bring the game to a 1-1 tie, a score line that would remain into the first intermission.

Saint Mary's would take their first lead of the game at 8:02 left in the second period as Mackenzie Beggs (Kemptville, ON) was able to slide the puck into the back of the Mountie net to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage.

Just 49 seconds later, the visitors would double their lead as the shot from Abigail Mackenzie (Stellarton, NS) put the home Mounties in a difficult hole.

The scoring would continue for the visitors just two minutes later as Aimee O'Neill (Glace Bay, NS) scored on the powerplay to boost the Saint Mary's lead to 4-1.

The Huskies would add one more in the period on a 4-on-4 with just over a minute to play in the period as Jillian Duggan (Halifax, NS) bagged the fifth goal of the night for SMU.

The Huskies would find their sixth goal of the night mid-way through the period as Erin Denny (Eskasoni, NS) extended the lead to 5. 6-1 would be the score line that would hold for the remainder of the contest.

Huskies first year forwards Charlotte Buffie (one goal, one assist) and Avery Cant (two assists) both recorded multipoint nights, while goaltender and reigning AUS Athlete of the Week Ridleigh Hansen (Red Deer, AB) turned away 24 shots for her fourth straight victory.
