FREDERICTON, NB - The St. Thomas University Tommies asserted their dominance at home with a 5-2 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in a key match-up.
From the opening puck drop, the Tommies set the pace, controlling both ends of the ice and establishing their presence early.
At 19:01, Trinity Webber broke the deadlock assisted by Katelin Moffatt and Olivia Stock, putting the Tommies up 1-0.
The second period brought more goals for the Tommies. Tommies scored on the powerplay with captain Ekaterina Pelowich, scoring the second of the night assisted by Trinity Webber.
Four minutes later the Tommies capitalized on their speed, rookie Megan Kirkpatrick added the third one for the Tommies.
The final period began with both teams fighting for control. The Tommies were looking to close out the game while the Huskies pressed hard to find the back of the net. The Tommies focused on a strong defensive structure, with their goalie, Katie Sweeney, having a good game performance.
At 4:50 in a PP - Nadia Lavoie scored for the Tommies assisted by Laura Brown and Katelin Moffatt.
Two minutes later Tommies were not finished and defence Laura Brown scored to give the home team a 5-0 lead.
Huskies found the back of the net at 10:02 goal scored by Gillian Lapierre assisted by Sarah Leopold.

The Huskies added another one late in the third period, with Kara MacLean finishing a well-executed play assisted by Georgia Steenbakkers and Lapierre.

Tommies secured another victory at home with a final score of 5-2. The Tommies capitalized on power-play opportunities. Katelin Moffatt stood out for Tommies, while Gillian Lapierre earned the three stars for the Huskies. Despite the loss, the Huskies displayed resilience, battling hard until the final whistle.
Next for the Tommies is Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday Oct 19, while the Huskies while travel to UPEI to take the Panthers on Saturday at 7 p.m.
