Huskies shut out Tigers 3-0

HALIFAX, NS - Saint Mary's goaltender Ridleigh Hansen stopped 28 shots, as the Huskies defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 3-0 in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action on Friday night at the Halifax Forum.

A quiet first period saw the Huskies out-shoot the Tigers 15-10 but could not find the back of the net. The Tigers were on the power play twice in the first, but Ridleigh Hansen (Red Deer, AB) stood tall for Saint Mary's.

Huskies forward Keyara Nelson (Bellville, ON) broke the deadlock halfway through the second period. Mia Faseruk (Winnipeg, NB) picked up the rebound from Kylie Kerr's (Milton, ON) shot and snapped the puck back to the point to a waiting Nelson.

Eight minutes into the third period, Dalhousie's Hannah Robertson took a two minute penalty for hooking, giving the Huskies their third power play of the night. This time the Huskies were able to convert, with Kate Gallant (Brooklin, ON) finding the open net.

The Huskies sealed the game ten minutes later when Abigail MacKenzie (Stellarton, NS) sent Mackenzie Beggs (Kemptville, ON) one-on-one in the Tigers zone. Beggs stepped around the Tigers defender and slid the puck to an empty Dalhousie net.

The Huskies outshot the Tigers 40-28 on the night, with Hansen stopping 28 pucks for the shutout, while Tigers netminder Madison King stopped 37 shots in defeat.

Saint Mary's improves to 4-2-1 with the win, and will be back in action on Saturday night, hosting the UPEI Panthers (2-3-1) at the Dauphinee Centre at 7 p.m. GET TICKETS
