#7 ranked Axewomen defeat Huskies 36-10

HALIFAX, NS – The U SPORTS #7 ranked Acadia Axewomen defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 36-10 in Atlantic University Sport women's rugby action on Saturday afternoon at Huskies Stadium in Halifax.

The Axewomen opened the scoring with a try from first year Prop Amelia Mason (Upper Tantallon, NS) in the 22^nd minute. Ellie Youden (Moncton, NB) added a try in the 28^th minute to extend the visitors lead to 10-0.

The Huskies were able to cut into that lead in the 34^th minute, as Devyn Di Nardo (Toronto, ON) plunged in for a try, cutting the lead to 10-5 at the half.

The Axewomen began the second half with some more offensive opportunities, as reigning AUS MVP Sara Grant (Melrose, NB) made a great run for a try, and connected on the conversion to extend the lead to 17-5.

Less than ten minutes later, Axewomen reserve flanker Samantha Reid (River John, NB) scored a try, with Grant hitting another conversion to extend the lead to 24-5.

The Huskies cut into the lead again with a try from Meagan Brown (Fall River, NS) bringing the lead to 24-10.

Acadia would finish off the match with two unanswered tries from the Reid sisters, with Samantha Reid scoring her second of the match, before Brooke Reid (River John, NB) scored one of her own, bringing the final score to 36-10.

Samantha Reid being named Player of the Game for Acadia, while Meagan Brown was named Player of the Game for the Huskies.

The Axewomen (4-0) return home to host the UPEI Panthers (1-3) on Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. in Wolfville.

The Huskies (0-4) will visit the STFX X-Women (3-1) next Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m., before finishing the season on home turf as they host the UPEI Panthers, Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
