Schuler’s hat-trick powers Huskies to 3-1 win over Mounties
SACKVILLE, N.B. – Saint Mary's first year forward Katelyn Schuler scored a trio of second half goals to power the Huskies to a 3-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties on Sunday afternoon in Sackville, NB.
Looking to keep the momentum going after a 1-1 draw on Saturday against the Panthers, it was the Huskies who would get the first quality scoring opportunity of the match. Forward Áine O'Neil (New Ross, NS) played a great through-ball onto the foot of midfielder Charlotte Baines (Halifax, NS), who was taken down in the box by Mounties defender Norah Quinn, with the official calling for a penalty kick. Cara Freeman (Halifax, NS) stepped to the spot and narrowly missed a low shot to the left.
The remainder of the second half saw a few opportunities, with Huskies Áine O'Neil and Charlotte Baines both recording shots on goal, but Mounties goalkeeper Katie Cabot was able to turn them away, as the teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.
It took just five minutes into the second half for the Huskies to take the lead, after bringing in several second half subsititues including first year forward Katelyn Schuler (Edmonton, AB). Defender Alexa Ikejiani (Minsing, ON) played a great cross that was directed forward by forward Brooklyn Salgueiro (Dartmouth, NS) onto the foot of Katelyn Schuler who made no mistake, putting it into goal to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute.

Schuler would give the Huskies the lead in the 71st minute, heading in a rebound off of the initial shot from defender Jossalyn Downey (Waterloo, ON).
