HALIFAX, NS – Cape Breton forward Alliyah Rowe scored a pair of goals to power the Capers to a 2-0 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday night at Huskies Stadium in Halifax, NS.
Prior to the final home game of the regular season, Saint Mary's recognized three graduating seniors – defenders Madlyn Blinn and Eryn Sitar, and midfielder Sarah Eden– before their final game at Huskies Stadium.
Capers forward Alliyah Rowe (Kitchener, ON) – the AUS All-Time leading goal scorer – found the first goal of the match in the 35th minute, as Makenna Bowser (Bible Hill, NS) launched a corner kick toward the far post that was headed in by Rowe for her 20th goal of the season.
The Huskies pushed for an equalizer but were unable to solve the Capers backline. Huskies goalkeeper Katie Alley (Milton, ON), made several quality saves in the first half, as the Capers outshot the Huskies 8-0 in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In a must win game for the Huskies, Saint Mary's pressed for an equalizer, with defender Alexa Ikejiani (Minesing, ON) firing a shot on goal but was stopped by Capers goalkeeper Ellie Lancaster (Fall River, NS).
Midway through the second half, Rowe doubled her tally, firing a high shot from 25 yards out that found the top corner to make it 2-0 Capers.
Rowe was named Player of the Match with two goals – finishing her AUS regular season career with a record 77 goals.
The Capers finish the regular season with a 10-0-2 record, clinching first place in the AUS and a bye to the semifinal which will be played Friday, Oct. 25 at STFX University in Antigonish, NS.
The Huskies loss drops the record to 4-6-2 on the campaign, as they narrowly miss a playoff berth.
