Huskies defeat Aigles Bleues in straight sets, strengthen playoff position

MONCTON, NB - The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Aigles Bleues in straight sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-17) in Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball action on Wednesday night at CEPS Louis-J.-Robichaud gymnasium on the Université de Moncton campus.

The first set was the most exciting as the two teams traded points and the lead. The other two offered great plays to the more than 200 spectators.

Emilia Mikanovich and Megan Bruhm led the Huskies offence with 11 kills apiece and Olivia Bell added 10. Mikanovich and Bruhm scored 10 and 9 digs on defense. Kyana Sivret and Ivana Urquhart-Mladinéo each have 7 kills for the Aigles Bleues and Sara Chiasson 9. Anne Paquette and Emily Chiasson had 8 digs on defense.

The win improved the Huskies record to 12-6 on the season, strengthening their hold on the second place in the AUS standings heading into the final weekend of the regular season. The Huskies will host the Memorial Sea-Hawks (0-18) for a pair of games this weekend, Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. GET TICKETS.

The Aigles Bleues loss eliminated them from playoff contention. They'll have a home-and-home with the UNB REDS (10-8) to finish off the season, Friday in Moncton and Saturday in Fredericton, with both games scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
