ST. JOHN'S, NL - The Saint Mary's Huskies erased a two set deficit to come-from-behind and defeat the Memorial Sea-Hawks in five sets (23-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-23, 15-6) in Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at the Memorial Fieldhouse in St. John's, NL.
The Huskies were led by outside hitter Breanna Golding (Pickering, ON) with a match-high 18.5 points, including 14 kills, six digs, five blocks and one ace. Right side Sydney Fader (Dartmouth, NS) added 16.5 points including 13 kills and five blocks, and left side Emilia Mikanovich (Minsk, Belarus) contributed 15.0 points with 11 kills and a team-high nine digs. Setters Grace Blaskovits (Kelowna, BC) and Taylor Lougheed (Calgary, AB) split setting duties, with Blaksovits dishing out 24 assists while Lougheed added 16.
With the win, the Huskies improved to 8-3 on the season, good for first place in the AUS standings, while the Sea-Hawks drop to 6-6. The Huskies will be back in action next weekend, for a pair of matches against the Dalhousie Tigers on Friday, Jan. 17 and Saturday, Jan. 18, both at 7 p.m. at the Dalplex.
