Huskies compete at AUS Cross Country Championship

ST. JOHN'S, NL - The Huskies took to the cross country course for the final time this season as they travelled to St. John's, Newfoundland to compete in the Atlantic University Sport Championships, hosted by the Memorial University of Newfoundland.

On the women's side Bhreagh Burke was the first finisher for the Huskies. Burke, having lost one of her spikes in the first 2k lap of the race kicked off the other and ran bare foot for the remainder of the race finishing 36th in a time of 34:26, a season's best. Next across the line was first-year athlete Mackenzie Hayduk finished in 43rd in a time of 35:46, taking down her previous personal best by a minute. Top three individual finishers of the women's race were Caroline Ash of the St.FX X-Women in third, Sophie Black of the Moncton Aigles Bleu in second, and Eileen Benoit of the St. FX X-Women being crowned AUS Champion in a time of 30:24. For the team podium, UNB Reds were third, Dalhousie Tigers second, and taking the team title were the ST. FX X-Women with a score of 22 points.

On the men's side, first-year athlete Brady Kyle was again the top finisher for the Huskies, finishing 29th in a time of 28:48. Kyle was followed closely by teammate Alex Labrecque, who finished 30th in a time of 28:51. Top individual finishers were Will Boyle of the UNB Reds in third, Jacob Benoit of the Dalhousie Tigers in second, and Jared Howse of the UNB Reds being crowned champion in a time of 24:53. In the team race the Dalhousie Tigers were third, St. FX X-Men second, and the UNB Reds took the team title with a score of 23 points.
