McDonnell and Kobayashi named Huskies Athletes of the Week: Nov. 25-Dec. 1, 2024

Men's hockey forward Declan McDonnell and women's basketball guard Aki Kobayashi have been named Huskies Athletes of the Week, sponsored by Freeman's Little New York Halifax, for the week ending December 1st, 2024.

Declan McDonnell, a second year forward from Buffalo, NY, is the Huskies male athlete of the week for the week of Nov. 25-Dec. 1, 2024.

In Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleus, McDonnell scored a pair of third period goals to lead the Huskies to the win.

On the season, McDonnell is tied for second on the Huskies in goals with seven, with six goals coming over the last four games. 

The Huskies record stands at 9-6-2-0 heading into the December break. Saint Mary's will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 10, as they host the Dalhousie Tigers (3-15-0-0) at the Dauphinee Centre. GET TICKETS

Aki Kobayashi / Women's Basketball / Osaka, Japan / 5th year / Commerce

Aki Kobayashi, a fifth year guard from Osaka, Japan, is the Huskies female athlete of the week for the week of Nov. 25-Dec. 1, 2024.

Over a pair of Huskies wins, Kobayashi averaged 18.5 points on 59% field goal shooting, 7.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds amd 2.5 steals per game.

In Wednesday's 73-54 win over the STFX X-Women, Kobayashi was named Player of the Game, scoring a career-high 22 points on 9/14 shooting from the field, adding six assists, three steals and two rebounds.

In Saturday's 86-55 win over the Dalhousie Tigers, Kobayashi stuffed the stat-sheet with 15 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and two steals.

On the season, Kobayashi leads the AUS in total assists (46), assists per game (5.1), and ranks fifth in total steals (17).

The Huskies win improved their record to 9-0 on the season. Saint Mary's will be back on home court on Friday, Jan. 10, as they host the UPEI Panthers (6-3) at 6 p.m. at the Homburg Centre. GET TICKETS
