Huskies win 3-2 over MTA and secure playoff spot

(HALIFAX, N.S.)—The Saint Mary's Huskies survived a second half as wild as the weather they played in on Saturday afternoon, defeating the visiting Mount Allision Mounties 3-2 from Huskies Stadium in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer action.

SMU's Paige Vincent (Dartmouth, NS) scored the only goal of the first half in the 18th minute with an assist from Anelise Karakostas (Victoria, BC) for the 1-0 lead.

Morgan Lundin (Ottawa, Ont.) answered back for the Mounties off a corner kick in the 48th minute with Amanda Piltzmaker (Ottawa, Ont.) adding the helper to draw even 1-1.

Lundin wasn't done scoring and added her second of the match three minutes later in the 51st minute unassisted with a rocket shot 25-yards out as the Mount Allison took the lead 2-1.

The lead was short lived, as Jamie Kennedy (Fall River, NS) drew the Huskies even 2-2 at the 56th minute.

Hannah Lawrence (Halifax, NS) scored in the 81st minute with help from Vincent for the 3-2 final score.

Both teams finished with 15 shots each and forced SMU keeper Ashley Blank (Dartmouth, NS) into making seven saves while Mount Allison keeper Hanna Bowers (Halifax, NS) made six.

SMU improves to 6-4-1 on the year and sit in third-place in the AUS standings with 16 points while Mount Allison falls to 1-8-1 and have four points.

Both teams return to action next weekend with SMU visiting UPEI October 26 in their regular-season finale while Mount Allison hosts CBU October 28.
